The Solar Alliance is the birthplace of humanity. The Sol System is home to eight planets, numerous dwarf planets, and a myriad of smaller celestial bodies.
Earth, though long rendered uninhabitable by humans, is still the nominal center of the system. The pale blue orb hangs in the sky as a constant reminder of our past... so that we can recognize our follies in retrospect when we invariably repeat them.
Mars is the most powerful planet in the system. It was the very first planet terraformed, and as such, is home to the oldest civilization in the system. Since then, seven of the system's moons have also been terraformed, including four Jovian moons, one Saturnian moons, and one Neptunian moon. Though the planet has yet to be terraformed, several colonies exist on Venus. In addition, numerous mining colonies, manufacturing facilities, and the habitats necessary to support them have been constructed on the system's many asteroids and dwarf planets.
Sol is also home to three megacorporations - Eurocorp, Fitzroy Holdings, and Nerion Innovative Technologies. Fitzroy Holdings is one of the three largest megacorporations and has the distinction of being one of only five that is privately held... and the only privately held megacorporation not located in the Empyrean system.
As the birthplace of human civilization, the Sol System is notable for its strong civil governments. Nowhere in the three systems is the power of the megacorporations more limited than it is in the Sol System. In fact, the Solar Alliance is the only non-megacorporate entity with a permanent seat on the Economic Security Council. The Solar Alliance maintains an allied military force and a civilian police force to rival the Economic Security Police.
